FIRST Robotics

FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology is an organization that promotes teamwork and collaboration among engineers. FIRST assists students to learn science and technology though robotics competitions. Currently two DSBN Secondary schools have FIRST Robotics teams, Governor Simcoe Simbotics Team #1114 and Westlane Spartonics Team #1503.

Teams consist of high school students ages 13 to 18, with approximately 25 students on the team each year. While on the team, students obtain valuable life skills and knowledge to assist them in pursuing post-secondary education, usually in the science and technology fields. Students work alongside our talented group of mentors, with experience in these fields, who are able to help the students learn more than they would be able to on their own. DSBN is very thankful to our many mentors who spend countless hours with these students, as well as growing with them as a team. Each year FRC comes out with a new challenge that the team has 6 weeks to design, build, and program a robot to compete in each year’ challenge.

“We build more than just robots, we build people”                                                                                                                Robotics Mentor

Governor Simcoe Simbotics and Westlane Spartonics have won numerous regional and world championship awards. In 2012 Governor Simcoe achieved the highest honour awarded to FIRST team, the Chairman’s Award at the 2012 World Championships in St. Louis Missouri.
